The New Zealand contingent at the 2019 U21 GC World Championships in Nottinghamm, England have maintained New Zealand’s reputation as a powerhouse in youth croquet.
Edmund Fordyce (South Canterbury) has held his nerve after going down 0-2 in the best-of-five final to win three straight games and claim the 2019 U21 GC World Championship title (4-7, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5, 7-5)!
Fordyce’s success continues New Zealand’s dominance in this Championship which began in 2009, becoming the fourth New Zealander to win the title. The only time a New Zealander hasn’t won was in 2011 when Egypt’s Moustafa Nezar prevailed.
Christopher Spittal bounced back from his first round loss in the knock-out to win the Bowl 7-4, 6-7, 7-5 over USA’s Blake Fields.
In an all New Zealand Shield final, it was Nathan Bullen (Wellington) who prevailed over Eleanor Ross (Nelson) in a tight contest 7-6.
