AC Handicap Conversion Chart

There have been additional enquiries about the AC conversion. Michael Hardman and Keith Ebden have developed charts that provide a visual for the conversion. Michael’s chart can be found here. Those who have Keith’s chart are welcome to use it. Both are correct. One chart is being sent so there is less confusion.

Additionally I’ve added Graeme Roberts explanation of the changes with the minus players as another source of information. The information in Croquet Matters , the chart and explanation will assist with making the conversions. If you have questions, please be sure to contact me at annienz2017@outlook.com or 02239 79 303.

Message from Graeme Roberts:

As discussed, Mike Hardman’s summation of the handicap changes can be used to simplify handicappers’ tasks.  It can be extended to cover handicaps in the range -2 to -4, though there you need to use both current handicap and current index.

The summation can be stated as follows:

  1. All players have a new index that is 50 points higher than their current index, regardless of handicap.
  2. All players with a current handicap of 12 or higher stay on the same handicap.
  3. All players with current handicaps in the range 4 to 10 have a new handicap that is 1 higher than their current handicap (e.g. a 4 becomes a 5, a 9 becomes a 10).
  4. All players with current handicaps in the range -1.5 to 3 have a new handicap that is 1.5 higher than their current handicap (e.g. a -1 becomes a 0.5, a 2 becomes a 3.5).

This deals with the great majority of croquet players.  The point should also be made that for all players on a handicap of -1 or higher, their new index will be the same distance from (above or below) the closest trigger point as they were before this change of handicap.  This is not necessarily true for players on current handicaps of -1.5 to -4.

For the most senior players, apply the following rules  which use both their current handicap and their current index.

Handicap -2 case 1.  A player on -2 with a current index in the range 1951 to 2049 has a new handicap of 0.

Handicap -2 case 2.  A player on -2 with a current index in the range 2050 to 2099 has a new handicap of -0.5.

Handicap -2.5 case 1.  A player on -2.5 with a current index in the range 2001 to 2199 has a new handicap of -0.5

Handicap -2.5 case 2.  A player on -2.5 with a current index in the range 2200 to 2249 has a new handicap of -1.

Handicap -3 case 1.  A player on -3 with a current index in the range 2101 to 2349 has a new handicap of -1.

Handicap -3 case 2.  A player on -3 with a current index in the range 2350 to 2399 has a new handicap of -1.5.

Handicap -3.5 case 1.  A player on -3.5 with a current index in the range 2251 to 2549 has a new handicap of -1.5.

Handicap -3.5 case 2.  A player on -3.5 with a current index in the range 2550 to 2599 has a new handicap of -2.

Handicap -4 case 1.  A player on -4 with a current index in the range 2401 to 2749 has a new handicap of -2.

Handicap -4 case 2.  A player on -4 with a current index in the range 2750 to 2999 has a new handicap of -2.5.

Handicap -4 case 3.  A player on -4 with a current index of 3000 or more has a new handicap of -3.
