It may have been more to do with preparation than acclimatization for local favorites Levi Franks and Myles Duggan of Cashmere High to become the 2019 NZ Secondary School Champions in Christchurch today. In temperatures barely reaching double figures the top seeds were victorious in the best of 3 games final over a very strong Hawera High School pairing TeKiri King and Isabel Tong 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
They were no doubt assisted in their preparations for this championship by clubmates and 3rd placed Josh Winter and James Duggan, also of Cashmere High. The foursomes “Youth Croquet” facebook page provides an interesting insight to some of their unique practice techniques!
It wouldn’t be a NZ Secondary Schools Championship without South Canterbury’s Mt Hutt College being on the podium and so it was with Thomas Henderson and Caitlin Smith in the Plate Final, wining 7-5, 7-5 over Sam Cuttle and Jack Miers also from the famous Mt Hutt stable of talented players.
Congratulations to all qualifying teams and supporters at this 2019 Championship and for your great performances over a weekend of testing conditions.
